| Show local writer wins recognition of educators irvin L warnock wamock of sigurd was signally honored for his literary ability when lie he received an invitation this week to read one of his compositions before the utah academy of science arts and letters which will be in session november 4 and 5 at the brigham young university the invitation extended in alet a letter from dr thomas L martin of the university faculty facility stated that a memorial meeting honoring the late dr harrison R merrill who died recently will be he held d frida friday y evening november 4 at this meet ing a life sketch of dr terrill merrill who was head of the school of journalism and extension division bat at the university as well vell as some of his poems and other material will be read I 1 dr martins Alar tins letter to mr warnock reads in part as follows you wrote impressively of dr merrill in the utah farmer in praise of common things the committee thought it would be nice if you could see your way clear to attend this meeting and read this literary production the article referred to written bv mr warnock wamock for his column I 1 the clodhopper was in tribute to dr merrill at the time of his death the editor of the utah farmer however transferred mr warnocks War nocks article to the column ju ordinarily written by dr avenill men ill under the title in praise of common things it was a tactful recognition tion of mr warnocks War nocks abilay as a writer and the tribute to dr merrill was a fitting finale forthe for the column he had written dr martin indicated in the let hr h r that the officials would await mr air warnocks War nocks arrival but should he be unable to attend some oth er reader would present the composition po s before the meeting |
