| Show I 1 VERMILION MRS AMS JACOB BASTIAN BASTIA I 1 correspondent 0 0 elaine thalman entertained at a candy pull at her home sunday with aitu pit and table tennis as games of the evening beth bradfield of sigurd was a special guest twenty little guests helped douglas celebrate his tenth birthday at his home sunday games were played after which tasty refreshments were served mrs mamie gledhill returned home saturday from salina where she was employed the past month 1 mrs dena mulford is visiting relatives in wayne county mrs chandler bof idaho is here visiting her sister mrs jacob the that were cared for had dental defects remedied I 1 five towns held infant and pre 1 school conferences as part of the J program of maternal and child health work these conferences were sponsored locally by the fol owing lowing organizations in richfield by the legion auxiliary in joseph and cove koosharem Koo sharem elsinore and monroe by the relief societies of those towns in the infant section these conferences held 26 meetings with individuals u admitted and visits co conferences n feren ces known as the summer er roundup round up were held in all sevier county towns open to children who were entering school in september 1937 health examinations smallpox small pox vaccinations and diphtheria immunizations were given better than one half of the children eligible for examination took advantage of the opportunity nine of these conferences were held with 19 individuals admitted and with a similar number of visits next year the nurses in charge hope for an attendance as nearly per cent as possible the sevier county health council which is very active in the local health program is composed of representative members from each civic and church organization and from each community it thus functions as an efficient coordinating unit for the health matters pertaining to the district it cooperates with any official or private agency interested in the health of the community and it assists in formulating policies for the public health nursing program it is especially interested in child welfare in all a I 1 1 of its phases it also interprets the public health nursing program to the community the acting officers are chairman R T thurber vice chairman R H parker secretary treasurer ila dark clark child welfare chairman mrs myrle brugger through the health council a corrective program has been organized A suggestion was made that all in incorporated corp orated towns civic civic a and n d social socia i organizations make an n a annual n bual contribution to the health council child welfare program to be used for corrective purposes this is the start of a most helpful proposition during 1937 with the funds available 13 children were aided by this program I 1 hernia 3 dental 2 vision 6 tonsils and ade dental 2 vision 6 tonsils and ade the section of the report on school hygiene indicates that considerable sid erable attention is given to this field in 1937 there were 1235 inspections ions by nurses in the schools with field nursing visits and 2917 office nursing visits I 1 12 2 class room health talks were gi given v I 1 interviews were held with teachers and interviews with other school personnel cases were referred to private physicians and cases were given first aid by nurse special visitors to sevier county from the utah state board of health included the following D C houston director division of public health education mrs ruth ward mumford director of school health education mrs hazel stevens nutritionist dr D D carr can director local health ad administration and venereal disease control miss aliss joy B stuart division maternal and child health these visitors paid close alteri attention to the schools giving talks and addressing various parent teachers associations and redi red cross classes |
