Show beet farmers ask change in pay scale objections of the utah sugar beet cooperative association to the department of agricultures agri cultures 1938 sugar beet labor schedule of payments took definite form monday the objections expressed by di decors at meetings last week were listed in a petition sent to secretary henry A wallace by J R p rawlins president asking changes in the schedule the letter asked that the labor schedule used in utah last year be given official recognition for 1938 in order that growers might be able to both meet labor costs and still qualify for their benefit payments under the sugar act of 1937 action followed announcement last week that farmers must pa pay y their crop laborers at least 8 an acre for the first beet thinning this year if they wish to comply for maximum payments under tinder the new sugar act these rates were given in a telegram re state AAA headquarters bersin in logan utah district rates specify a minimum pay of an acre for first hoeing an acre for second weeding and hoeing 90 cents a ton for pulling and topping where the acre yield is more than 12 tons and 80 cents a ton for better yielding fields where loading is done by the same laborer doing the topping an additional 10 cents a ton will be required |
