Show INSPECTOR URGES mm beautifying CI suggests cooperation of civic units in program for richfield by IV H GORE in the summer of 1936 the reaper carried a most interesting and timely editorial this editorial called attention to the proposal to hold bold a world exposition in utah in j 1947 to commemorate the centennial of the settling of the state it asked the pertinent question what will richfield do in the next ten years to improve its appearance and place itself in line for that e it seems to me that the thing richfield could do that would most improve her appearance to the resident and visitor and make it a more attractive place in which to live would be the planting of uniform shade trees and grass between the curb and sidewalks of the ci city ty why not start a project ali this spring to plant grass in that bare bar dusty or weed infested space 0 of third north center and main streets in many blocks along these streets there are no shade trees where there are trees they are of many varieties some well cared for stately and beautiful others just trees in the future why not have thess these trees of one or at most a few well chosen varieties carefully spaced and well tended it seems that the task could be undertaken by a civic improvement committee composed of the mayor one or more members of the city council representatives from the lions club american legion american legion auxiliary rich kield study club PTA P TA daughters of utah pioneers business and professional club and other interested groups for tec technical help the county agent smith hughes teacher agricultural inspector and the supervisor of th the e forest could be added this group could function to recommend a long time plan for the beautification fic a of richfield by a system of planting this plan would add much to the appearance of the city reduce dust in summer and mud ii in ri I 1 winter it would be inexpensive I 1 and something in which all citizens could participate we are doing much through the I 1 associated civic clubs lions club and in other ways to attract tourists and visitors to this section of I 1 utah let us take steps to make this a more attractive city and a desirable place in which to rest and visit then when visitors do depart I 1 they will long remember richfield as a city of beautiful grassi grass and trees |
