Show THE PRACTICAL JOKER two examples of a mista mistaken idea of fun were afforded her recently that suggest such a lack of a sense of cultural feeling that we almost hesitate to put them down in black and white A funeral was being held for a certain well respected citizen not that the matter of who it was should have made any special difference the procession had been placed in order and flowers were carried to the church in a certain car after the services the flowers were again placed in this car when it was discovered that someone had let the air out of two tires on the car and the flowers had to be transferred and people in the procession inconvenienced it is quite frequently reported that air is let out of tires while cars are parked at meetings or for other occasions the seriousness of the offense being somewhat altered by the importance of the occasion for which the car is being used yet in many instances it is but an example of a misguided sense of humor that may cause someone serious trouble the other incident savors not only of a lack of good taste but also of a lack of patriotism and respect for public property if we could regard the person or persons performing such an act as sufficiently well versed in loyalty to be classed as responsible someone simply took it upon himself to walk away with the rope from the flag pole at the national guard armory the intrinsic value of the rope was not so great as to make the loss appreciable but the lack of public spirit shown show n in the act is deplorable to say the least children are not always the culprits where such acts are concerned sometimes they are persons grown up in stature but not in mentality or perhaps just dealers in so called practical jokes thoughtless no doubt of the seriousness of the offense in many cases the me public in general ab hores such acts recourse to the r courts is possible but the country is not honeycombed honey combed with detec tives lives the main hope of solution lies in general education that will reach those few who are out of line and impress them with a thought of where fun ends and action restrictive and in poor taste begins |
