Show WHAT ABOUT THE try WORKER the political fog is beginning to gather to the extent that it is difficult to discern the truth but rising above the fog are a few principles cip ies of americanism on which those who think logically base their hopes for the future and ultimate solution to the vexing problems of the day one of americas noted writers and economists in an article published last week expressed the opinion that government funds for work projects should be expended for the of new indus tries that in what he terms leaf taking projects the united states is selling her birthright for a howl bowl of porridge on the other hand he gives credit to the administration for worthwhile accomplishments and many american citizens would do well to follow his way of facing the facts and putting it allegorically legori cally render unto ceaser that which is censors Cea sors sers locally there have been some projects completed under ERA BRA and that have improved conditions for our citizens under normal conditions the same work would have been done with greater expediency is the opinion of many and no one can deny them the opinion as long as they wait for orderly action to remedy what they consider a bad situation that they are interested whether r right or wrong is but an indication that american citizenship has not gone to sleep in last weeks issue of the 11 reaper we published anfor information mation sent to the local office from washington relative to employment r of non relief labor on projects information that non re lief labor up to ten per cent could be employed but only under condition that relief labor could not be secured at the same time we published a report of the meeting of the associated civic clubs of southern utah in which they discussed the possibilities of contacting officials and urging employment of persons needing work who have not been on relief the problem is of national scope and under federal supervision the attitude of the associated clubs is highly commendable but in face of present conditions any immediate results cannot be expected that an emergency existed and to a great extent still exists cannot be questioned but a great many people are beginning to feel that the quality of material in the machine administering aid wont stand the power being applied that many people who have been on relief are people who have always been in need and will have to have help before any rehabilitation can be expected is self evi dent that many well qualified persons were forced by economic conditions to accept relief is likewise evident on the other hand there are people now ou out t of work and badly in need of it whose ideals of citizenship and pride in self sustenance have kept them off relief rolls even though they have gone without necessities those on relief roles have had but if the machine is not big enough to see this condition and it is a human machine so it should be able to see I 1 then certainly it is not made of material as strong as the power given it warrants if we can cant it have justice let us have mercy is a long sounding cry and in principle the cry that brought relief to those in need when the depression hit the country like a cyclone but its about time that american citizens do a little thinking for themselves and let their representatives in governmental eram ern mental bodies know that they wan want t a little better balance of mercy and justice |
