Show COMPLETE WOOK IN food preserved for relief clients and school hot lunch project approximately cans have been filled with vegetables or fruits for relief clients at canning centers established in sevier county this fall it was announced wednesday by mrs olivia thornell supervisor and R T thurber manager of the local ERA office S Z statements made by mayors bishops relief society presidents and others connected with work of this type praise the project as one of the best carried out by the ERA for the hot dish to be provided for school children during the winter this supplied cans of vegetables and fruit which is now ready for use A hot dish will be served at noon to children who are not able to go home during the noon hour the school lunch project will begin in november A survey made of the health conditions by doctors of the county and county nurses shows the necessity for the nutritional value of these hot lunches for school children officials in char charge chare e an that with the community com giunch unity cooperation assured the lunch project will be a welfare project of permanent benefit this project like the canning project will be lder under supervision of mrs airs thornell ten canning centers functioned in sevier county at richfield sa llna monroe elsinore Els lnore aurora redmond sigurd annabella joseph and Koos barem the sevier district school board furnished centers with modern modem home economic kitchens whenever and wherever it was possible one mayor provided a community kitchen dechen modern modem in every detail relief societies in some wards not only gave the use of their modem kitchens but also permitted use of their cookers and sealers the ERA office distributed cans sugar lids rubbers pressure cookers automatic sealers thermometers mo meters and other equipment ne cesary for the successful operation of food preservation projects employment was given at the canning centers to men and women from relief rolls the workers were able to work out their budgets on the projects and at the same time received educational training sponsored by such leaders as ag dr rose H widtsoe soe home economics consultant from the TJ of elna eina miler U S A C extension nutritionist ruby String bam state field supervisor all have learned the value of helping themselves raising gardens picking berries and fruits and drying vegetables and fruits |
