Show may close season to protect L ducks I 1 the audubon ass association 0 elation states that reliable reports disclose I 1 bartling sart ling evidence of the death of I 1 ducks during the fall and winter of 1931 35 this information it points out is not only based on ibe findings of its own field fixations but upon other dependable sources in the crisis which the count rys waterfowl is facing the audubon 1 association calls for one years closed season and adequate federal i caf 01 cement 1 respective in of the principal causes advanced for their extra ordinary oid inary decline the association holds the fact remains that control of the killing of waterfowl by man is the only means we have of quickly contributing to the restoration of an adequate breeding stock restoration of breeding grounds through expenditure of government or other funds while highly commended will vill nt not suffice in the present emergency it is declai declared ed the association feels that it will have the immediate support for one years closed season in this waterfowl crisis by a consider considerably abl number of sportsmen who realize that such action must be taken if they their children and other generations erat ions are to enjoy the fascinating diversion in the quest of these thage birds opposition to the proposed action is expected biorn some who form their i judgments from a few local concentrations with which they are familiar and where the supply did not indicate depletion other opposition will corre come from many who look upon a duck or 9 goose 0 0 se as something primarily to serve their sport or as foort food or a source of income from some who have financial interest in the maintenance of license fees from some who have financial interest in real estate the value of which a closed season might adversely affect and from those who maintain duck clubs as a commercial business for profit these are actuated by quite natural and understandable motives the association avers the audubon association calls for the enthusiastic approval and active support of every organ organization 17 of sportsmen conservationists ornithologists nature lovers farmers and others willing to cru sade with it to 1 close the season on waterfowl for one year beginning september 1935 and to 2 provide adequate assignment of federal enforcement personnel to make such ol a closed season effective fec tive the old U S S constitution earned the nickname of old ironsides in that historic fight with the guerriere when the ene mys cannon balls rebounded f from the oaken necks of the constitution |
