Show HEALTH I 1 of COUNTY HO s MEETING MONDAY plan explained committee appointments left to board the sevier county medical health council held their first meeting at the ERA office monday da y wl with th R T thurber county mana manager ger of the ERA in charge mr thurber explained the primary thought in organizing the council and pleaded with the members to participate in the actual practice of the motive he read r reports arts of conditions from schools wh where examinations have been made these reports having previously been given in the reaper and advised the council that until children can be relieved of physical handicaps they can make no marked progress in life it was decided to let the medical advisory committee select the various committees necessary for foi the functioning of the organization mr thurber explained he wanted the health council and advisory committee to be organized to take in every unit in the county miss laverna peterson district nurse mentioned a few of the medical needs and gave illustrative examples she stressed the needs of health education and hospitalization iza tion and stated that it would be the duty of the committee to administer medical relief funds to accomplish the greatest good she expressed appreciation of the cooperation given by doctors and dentists who had been generous enough to do corrective work for the school children dr H A dewey expressed the belief that the lack of activity of correction of physical defects is not a matter of either a lack of supply or demand but it is a case of ways and means by which these two factors might be brought together for the benefit of humanity he gave reasons why medical care is too expensive and as a summary stated that if provision were made whereby each and every inq could finance his own medical dental and nursing service the fees could be cut nearly I 1 in half dr dewey stated that as a result of high cost of medical rare care has arisen organizations to buy and sell such care and claimed that it is the duty of the health council to be prepared to meet such a situation in stating that it is probable that medicine will soon become a state or federal project dr dewey expressed what in his opinion would be the advantages and disadvantages As advantages he stated that there would be an equal and unbiased distribution of medical service to the needy and that if made federal the burden of taxation would also be equally distributed and the wealthy share with the indigent needy As disadvantages he stated that it would take out of the practice of medicine the friendly sympathy and interest between the physician and patient that all physicians dentists and nurses would promptly and automatically be placed on a common plane with common salaries with no incentive to be top botchers his advise was to solo cit the cooperation of every member of the council in urging any state or federal plan be developed on a sane and sensible basis for everyone mr thurber concluded with a report made by superintendent A J ashman of how much the school children had bene fitted by the ERA program in attitude surroundings food clothes and medical care the meeting was attended by mr air thurber miss bliss laverna peterson district nurse misses therma green and estehr putnam county nurses mrs myrle brugger supervisor of social service W W sylvester commissioner elect dr H A dewey richfield city physician dr R S be bell 11 of the dental association mrs earl lewis B P W club president J H nelson of the masonic lodge charles wilson from the farm bureau mrs E W poulson sevier stake relief society president mrs john L sevy jr red cross representative mrs H W keate richfield parents teachers association don E kenney sevier district teachers association |
