Show 4 0 proclamation 4 WHEREAS saturday may 26 1934 has been set aside throughout the united states as poppy day in memory of the men who gave their lives in the world war NOW THEREFORE I 1 W L warner mayor of the city of richfield hereby declare and proclaim that saturday may 26 1934 shall be set aside and considered as poppy day in the city of richa richfield beld and request that all of the citizens of richfield observe said day in memory of the services and sacrifices of the men serving during the world war saturday will be poppy day throughout the united states on this day millions of americans will wear the litle red poppy of france and flanders in memory of the men who gave their lives in the world war more than one hundred thousand of the finest young men of our country died in the great struggle of 1917 and 1918 and I 1 know that every true american holds the memory of their service and sacrifice in a sacred place in his heart the little red poppy worn on the coat poppy day will be the outward symbol of the reverence in which we hold the memory of these men while thinking of the men who lost their lives in the war our thoughts naturally will go to the other thousands who did not die but who returned with shattered bodies and minds to face years of suffering and distress we will be happy to know that in purchasing a flower to honor the dead we have contributed something to aid the disabled W L WARNER mayor |
