Show the homes contribution to school health program it is true that the community has haa a definite responsibility of cooperating with and supporting the school health program it is equally true that no school health program can achieve even a small degree of real success without the heartiest cooperation on the part of the individual home at every point the home needs to reinforce the health work of the school there are however two points at which the cooperation is of particular importance the first of these is the duty of the home to deliver to the school tho the best raw material for educational effort in the shape of healthy children before a child starts to school he should have a complete and careful health examination by a physician and any unfavorable conditions in the way of health habits or defects should be corrected so that the child may make his first step out into the world under the most favorable conditions the second point is cooperating in a joint home school time schedule for children in harmony with their needs when it is realized that a child of seven years for instance requires twelve hours of sleep out of the twenty four and that about three hours in addition are arc needed for play out of doors to say nothing of leisurely meals allowing time for proper mastication and of free time before school in the morning for such health necessities as bowel movement and the brushing of teeth it becomes evident that some careful executive work needs to be done by parents in order to plan for necessary time children must be kept unhurried and parents can do much training the preschool pre school child in the right health habits so that the school will not have to break or change these habits parents should inform themselves as to the health teachings of the school and then encourage the child to follow these at home keep the child at home when he has a cold fever or communicable disease this is the safe and sane thing to do for the protection of others encourage punctuality and regular attendance at school discourage absence for trifles all parents desire the best of all things for their child but most of all they desire health in all its aspects physical mental and social so see that your child is unhampered by correctable physical dc defects facts use your influence to get the child to practice the right health habits in regard to sleep outdoor exercise cleanliness elimination and rest make your meal time a happy time encourage him to drink milk eat vegetables cereals fruit eggs and sweets aj at the right time and in the right quantity child health is concerned with the mind and character as well as the body the impressions and habits formed in the home make an indelible imprint on him he should have interesting books and magazines suitable to his age and taste aste an opportunity to hear good music wholesome companionship so the home will reflect contentment and happiness rather than restlessness and discontent hold lim him responsible for keeping his toys room and clothes in order little kittle responsibilities in home dutes ies and pleasure reflect in a helpful wholesome attitude in all his school work by BIRS EUSE ELISE STILLMAN primary supervisor |
