Show MONROE LIONS discuss CIVIC TOPICS to seek state aid for road from sugar factory to monroe and joseph the monroe lions club held their regular meeting monday evening in 11 ri the city library at monroe with president lawrence W jones in charge lion boyd E brown repol revolted ted that his committee had bad met with the city council and discussed with them thein a lowering of tile the light and power rate ate I in the community he stated that after much consideration the following rate was adopted to be effective at once A minimum late of to remain as before a rate of ac per kill for from 10 to 30 kilowatts and ac per kill over 30 in each months as against loc flat rate at present this report was received with much satisfaction A lengthy discussion of road matters was then entered into with attorney 0 E R present mr explained carefully the situation of legislation pending before the state legislature the club is backing very earnestly the jorgensen bill providing for secondary state highways w ays receiving full maintenance from the state and designating among others in sevier county the road leading south from the sugar suga r factory to monroe and west to joseph connecting with the state highway at both ends monroe feels the gibat importance of this road for the following reasons the rio grande motorway traverses the stretch north of monroe twice a lay day each way way the school board luns 6 large busses over it in transporting tra s p orlo 1 the students student from sei sevier e r joseph seab elsinore central annabella and the sugar factory on to the monroe high school anit ani junior high school monroe is headquarters of a stake where a great many gatherings aie held drawing people from the south end of the county she has scenic monroe canyon where camping fishing and mountain climbing are enjoyed by hundreds every summer surn mer the state bank is located at monroe and many in south sevier have connections wit with the bank the western creamery co is lo located catel at monroe N and milk from several comma communities cities is fians ported to that point and last but not least by any means monroe has the famous hot springs where thousands conic come to battle bathe and dance from earl spring till late fall from all parts of the county the lions feel that it should be of interest to all ail taxpayers in the county that this road should be included in support from the state gas tax the club also has gone on record supporting the bill of the state sta te municipal league granting to cities and towns a share in the state gasoline tax A resolution was also passed pledging support of the club to all local merchants in purchasing articles which can be procured in monroe in preference to going elsewhere to make these purchases or sending to mail order houses lion A B smith presented the matter of the growing of a new crop in this vicinity he stated that in a section of wyoming the growing of beans was carried on to quite an extent one man mail producing last year acres which yielded a net income of over per acre this matter was referred to the committee on agriculture for investigation the club is sponsoring a community auction sale to be held in the very near future anyone may bring in to the public any implement article or animal and place it on the auction block for disposal it is felt that most everyone has articles ai tides in their possession which they desire to dispose of and others may need that very thing which is offered the entire club will be placed on committees to visit all residents in the vicinity listing what ww will be offered I 1 |
