Show TWO CITY TICKETS arcain Af cain like in the past city elections there will be two tickets in the field feld and like in several elections c stars this thi s gone gone by there will be ii me confusion as to party affiliation the voters of Ri richfield clifield in legard to city elections are not divided on political party lines and it is a debatable question whether this is is an advantage or a disadvantage A at 14 any rate we have a par party ty that calls itself citizens party and one that cis calls itself independent party it so happens that hardly any of the voters know to which of the parties they belong and to make sure I 1 they are floating bioni one primary to another and vote perhaps in both primaries irrespective of whether it is a good or bad custom we are following by not dividing the two parties on political lines it is a good thing to have two tickets in the field if for no other reason than that thai of creating some interest in our city affairs this interest we are sorry to say was greatly lacking this year and both parties held their primaries only after having been reminded that the lists of nominees nominees have to be in the hands of the city recorder twenty one days before election while we are sorry about this lack of interest we are glad to say that both parties have succeeded in nominating high class and deserving candidates the citizens party had easy sailing because with the exception of the holdover hold over councilman who was running on the other ticket when elected all present incumbents were candidates of the citizens party and have lone done good work while in office it was therefore an easy matter to them and most of this nominating was done by acclamation the incumbents incumbent as said before have done good work and for this reason they will undoubtedly have a good I 1 following at the polls to the independent party credit has to be given for selecting a splendid set of nominees A J ashman our superintendent of schools was nominated for mayor sir ir ashman is too well known and too highly respected to throw any more bouquets his way but there might be two considerations which might de from his vote the one is that his position in our school system makes such heavy demands on his time that it is doubt doubtful fur whether lie he could devote enough time to the additional dit ional duties of a mayor mayo r of our city the second consideration is is that if elected mayor sir mr ashman would woul d hold two salaried public positions which might not exactly comply with the statutes of the state of utah for four year councilman the independent party nominated martin artin C christensen who was a candidate of his party two years ago and whose vote came so close to that of the candidate of the other party that a recount had to be held lie id to determine whether he or his opponent had been elected elih nominees for two year councilmen are dr rn T R gledhill enoch R larsen and geo F christensen all of them I 1 are held in high hig gh esteem and would no doubt splendidly attend to the cites affairs for city le corder mrs eunice cope was endorsed by both parties but as the law provides that no candidate can lun iun on two tickets I 1 mrs cope decided to cast her lot with the citizens party for city treasurer the citizens party nominated mrs lizzie hansen to whose great credit it can be said that she has an intimate knowledge of city affairs and therefore js is excellently 1 fitted for the position her opponent on the independent ticket will be mrs airs parley magleby Iagle by a lady of pleasing personality good education and of such honesty and integrity ithac that no citizen of richfield would be to trust the city funds to her care and handling |
