summer convention saturday sunday and monday in iron county with editors alex H rollo of the iron county record and VV warner Al itchell of the paro wan times the people officials of the county and the two cities and the church and civic organizations as their hosts host tho the represent representation 1 tio n was better this year than ever before tile the regis ter showing eighty seven names among them three of the richfield reaper our editor 3 miss aiss thelma jackson and evan united states land commissioner william spi spry former governor of utah was among the quests guests of honor and addressed the che editors editors another guest of honor was A V peterson advertising manager of the union pacific railroad the registration distribution of badges and other preparatory steps took place at the el escalante hotel in cedar city saturday morning and an fn m the afternoon the editors and their gu guests eals were taken to parowan carowan for an inspection action of the famous rambouillet herds which are known not only in utah but all over the country as among the finest and which in number are excelled only by the herds of mt pleasant and surroundings the editors also were shown the new irr irrigation aaion projects made possible by pumping g underground waters naters the best representation of it was a well on the outskirts of parowan carowan Pa rowan irrigating at present ninety acres of land but having capacity for acres transforming an arid and desert into fertile fields returning from their inspection the visitors were taken to the sl stake ak L amusement hall and honored at a banquet furnished furn dished by the stake relief society during the banquet a program was executed with ex mayor J glayton clayton mitchell of parowan carowan as master of ceremonies addresses of welcome were delivered by county commissioner missioner nc r williams mayor thomas D adkins commercial club president jones and J W bentley manager of the new chocy lac factory tory the response was made by president alex F dunn of the utah press association vocal music was contributed by miss alice williams soprano accompanied by a richfield lady mrs gustive 0 arsen n enjoyable dance at the blue lantern pavilion concluded the tha first days proceedings sunday morning the editors were guests at an opulent breakfast furnished complimentary by republican national committe committeeman man irnest ernest bamberger who intended to be present pe personally ally but was suddenly called out of the state and sent his regrets regret st by wire vire follon following ving the breakfast the coni invention bention tion visitors made a short intermission in their entertainment features to attend to business and held a business meeting in which matters pertaining to the profession and business of newspaper making were discussed and president dunn and secretary mrs grace cooper submitted their semiannual semi annual reports after the business meeting a large caravan of cars took the editors u un to beautiful cedar breaks where ua and of admiration were uttered until the stomachs reminded the visitors that it iva was luncheon time and a box luncheon was enjoyed furnished again by the parowan carowan relief society with the after dinner cigars and candies contributed by mr air hutchings representative of the linot linotype ype company returning to cedar city at about 5 oI clock the editors took a rest while the visiting ladies devoted most of their time to primping up and changing from outing togs to their evening dresses and at 8 the convention visitors were guests at a banquet spread for them in the el escalante hotel by the union pasifico railroad company again some excellent speeches were heard among the speakers were toastmaster C al jones president of the cedar city chamber of commerce mayor E christensen a sevier county product formerly of redmond and salina U S land commissioner william spry state representative and publisher of the kaysville Kays ville reflex W P epperson I 1 J a jones resident manager of the western newspaper union of salt lake city A V peterson of the union pacific railroad railroads rail roady and others community singing was directed by professor W H manning of the branch agricultural college and a good program of vocal and instrumental music was enjoyed also the singers were miss alice williams mr and mrs isgren a male quartet and a male tr ial e trio a mr reynolds and a mr lindsay both rendering tenor solos instrumental music was a saxophone quartet readers of the reaper will be interested te to know that again virginia bean larsen was the accompanist for miss williams as well as for mr ana andr mrs isgren in most of the speeches high praise was given to the people and the re sources of the county arid and we may I 1 truthfully state that talis tin s praise wa more than well founded and well merited on account of the sabbath the tl a dancing daj icing was omitted gillitt ed monday morning the editors and their guests assembled on the spacious lawn lavin of the hotel where a group picture was taken which will be published in the reaper in the near future after this solemn act of having their faces perpetuated for coming generations the final act of the convention took place when an excursion was made to zion canyon returning to cedar city in the afternoon ter noon the convention ad adjourned i burned until the next business gathering which will be held in salt lake city some time in october subject to call by the president review revient
