Show COME FUL attendance most gratifying and attendants highly enthusiastic there was not in the last years any j civic movement in our city or for that matter in sevier county corn com 1 j fenced with such forethought con I 1 1 linued with such efficiency and sup ported with such an amount of good will as the boy scout movement that I 1 culminated in the organization n of the bryce canyon council boy scouts of dill america of which the richfield district is a member still more impetus was give given n to the mover movement nent through the scout leaders training course candied on here on three evenings of last week wednesday thursday and friday under the direction of executive W B hawkins whose leadership was so much the more inspiring as regional scout executive chas N miller happened to be here on two of the eveni evenings and assisted mr air hawkins in giving the course the attendance at all three sessions of the course was very satisfactory about sixty boys of ages from about thirty to seventy years participating among them members of the stake presidency bank cashiers high school teachers farmers far meis merchants and professional fess ional men the course wednesday evening was opened with addresses by district attorney H E deal beal the president of bryce canyon council president R D young of sevier stake and regional executive miller whereupon bishop F M ogden offered the opening prayer after which the training was started roy chidester was elected troop senior patrol leader geo H ogden scribe then patrols were organized and drilled patrol leaders and assistants appointed and regular tenderfoot work executed all the old boys entering into the spirit of the occasion with a vim and interest that the young boys hardly could emulate the second evening like the first one at the anona brought exercises in advanced work first aid life saving advanced rope work and leather craft the response wast just as enthusiastic thusia as on the first evening the third night was devoted to an outdoor pr program on the city in spite of many other attractions the turnout was very good even some of the wives of the boys were present to see how their bobbies acted as buddies kindled campfires camp fires fried meat and biscuits boiled water roasted marshmallows told campfire stories etc all in all the success of the course was best manifested in the fact that all participants were sorry that there were not more evenin evenings 9 s of that sort |
