Show AUTO m CLUB OF A H TY A UTAH BOOSTER neither southern nor northern california cal auto clubs do influence it neither northern nor southern california auto clubs should have any voice in a touring organization operated by and tor for benefit of utah citizens this is the attitude taken by the auto club of southern california as outlined in correspondence between E C eStay Af field secretary of the coast organization and elias S woodruff secretary of the auto club of utah and scenic high highway 9 3 Y association and in a letter from mr N 1 r to F V dewey jr field secretary ot of the california state automobile association the correspondence released by mr Wood tuff fuff holds an impartial routing of travel by utah organizations to be the sole objective which should be sought by either california touring body to mr woodruff the southern california club secretary wrote it seems to the writer that a continuation of 0 your efforts to build up a real organization unselfishly devoting its efforts for the benefit of your state as a whole will result in an understanding on the part at 0 those now opposed to you in salt lake city and ore ere long I 1 teel feel that such will be the case you are always in a position to assure parties that you well know that the automobile club of south ean california has haa no selfish or personal s ambitions to realize no friends to favor or enemies to punish we do not want conditions misrepresented in order to turn tracei travel southward nor do we want travel destined tor for this section of the country to be diverted elsewhere through pique or malice salt lake city occupies a unique pa position and it capitalized by her people should receive a vastly increased volume of motor travel not alone of east and west welt bound transcontinental motorists but an ever increasing volume of such travel to and from the yellowstone country and to the great natural wonders of southern utah our only desire Is to see fair and impartial routing of travel and the development of the I 1 great scenic attractions adjacent to southern california which after all Is is the mecca of a very large larga percentage of the transcontinental motorists 1 I do not believe that the california state automobile association with its headquarters in san francisco or the automobile club ot of southern california with its headquarters in los log angeles should have I 1 a voice in an organization operated by and for the benefit of the people 0 of f utah you well know that our r relations elat ions with your organization have been wholly cooperative and that no attempt has been made on our part to interfere with the operation of your organization or to influence you in your policies we have felt that the development of travel to and through southern utah would be beneficial alike to the state of utah and to southern california and wh whatever bever cooperation we have accorded your organization has been with that thought uppermost in our minds i assuring you ot of a continuation of our interest in your efforts and of all 11 possible cooperation on our part ito a that end I 1 am with kindest personal regards C E in a second letter to the northern california club mr said we believe that salt lake city occupies a unique position I 1 insofar as transcontinental travel er concerned 1 and that the efforts of any organization whether it bo be the old orl or the new club should be directed I 1 j toward an absolutely impartial rout 1 ing of travel the westbound motorist knows whether he is destined jo to northern or southern california points and should bo routed to his hie destination over the most direct practical route the outgrowth of the scenic highway association into an automobile club Is but the natural step and it la Is my personal conviction that their efforts will result either in assuming the lead within that state as ag a motor organization or in a Te reorganization organization of the old club on a basis that will represent rep the state as a whole |
