Show MERCHANTS AGREE TO 10 EARLY CLOSING HOUR HOOR i meeting held and clerks are arc granted their request for improved working conditions the matter of fixing a regular closing hour tor for all places of business was discussed at a harmonious meeting of the retail clerks and bustness business iii u managers kf m mercantile er cantile houses of richfield held at the commercial club rooms tuesday evening and a decision was arrived at that the extension of business hours on saturday night and nights preceding holidays was wag more or less of an injustice to the clerks the principal points agreed upon pon u by the managers and clerks were that more efficient service would be secured from clerks if working conditions are improved and to ask clerks to work 12 hours on saturday impaired their efficiency to the extent that they cannot give the service under such long hours as they can with shorter hours it was pointed out that other cities have adopted the 6 closing hour and it has resulted beneficial 1 ly there is no intent on the part of clerks or merchants to curtail the privileges of patrons but they urge the buying public to shop early and give clerks the same consideration that is obtained in other lines of employment the meeting was presided over by cap nielsen and was harmonious throughout the merchants conceding that clerks are entitled to the consideration that a 6 closing hour gives them tile the merchants ask the buying public to consider this change in the light of an improvement in their service ervice s and a help in making bet t efer lir working conditions for the employees plo |
