Show mute rese devoir M aking vast improvements 8 1 in n aind ad r 7 Aro iid T properties P wi fe S committee on inspection tour visits sevier valley vailey diute piute canal and Is s well pleased with operating features A committee of water users under tile the sevier valley canal made an inspection trip all along the canal from cove to fayette the party consisting of parley magleby morten jensen frank TM M ogden C W powell I 1 W of venice and engineer lerue ogden travelled by horseback over the entire distante distance inspecting the canal very thorough ly they found at the head a stream f of second feet the largest stream ever carried everything is in in perfect shape and the canay is carrying the huge stream in perfect safety there are however a few places where floods can enter and do damage like especially at the mouth of cedar ridge and willow creek canyons the committee right there and then decided to re 1 commend that overshoots over shots be placed at these points which improvement will make the canal as safe as any in the state ot of utah cement and steel gates are being used through out and through these the stream can be regulated with a great degree of accuracy weirs re installed in I 1 every lateral and through them the side streams are regulated with such precision that every stockholder is assured of the right proportion of water coming to him the second feet constituting tile the stream at the head are distributed in the various laterals literals late rals so accurately to shares ithac that at the lower end the stream I 1 carried amounts to only five second feet the committee was very well and pleased with the oper operating features the hoard board of directors of the plute reservoir and irrigation co held a meeting at the offices in salina monday and in this meeting the recommendation of tile the committee was carried out and the overshoots over shots were ordered built to make the canal absolutely sol sate safe it also was decided to purchase acres of land at the upper end of the reservoir for storage purposes increasing tile the storage capacity to such an extent that enough water can be held in reserve for emergencies |
