or providence willed that this week should bo be pleasurable for it has assuredly sti been filled with unanticipated p abed happy events it began monday morning when mr evans with an extraordinarily broad smile announced that there would be a hall half holiday that afternoon the students were so overcome tor for a second that they even respond but it was only a brief second until they fairly raised the root roof with their applause since the student body had planned nothing for the occasion each student was at liberty to do as lie he pleased some took a lilke hike others went horseback riding and still others made up part of the sleep they had lost while ahil e practising practicing opera or writing graduation themes one thing is certain that everyone spent a carefree happy afternoon free from the worries of school all came back tuesday morning in good humor ready tor for good hard work 0 professor israelson advises tile tho seniors since professor israelson of the K X C had brought a special message to the seniors senior s that dignified body humbly gathered in their english room to hear what he had come so tar far to say to them professor isra olsons elsons message was a plea to the graduates to continue school and go on m to college he pointed out to them hem the importance of an aduca tion ion by relating his personal experiences abd giving vivid examples his chat as he called it won the seniors over immediately and were glad to fill the cards he handed them regarding their vocations tor for life before lie he left he had made the seniors feel as it if they even desired to attend the school he represented at any rate he convinced them that they should go to college the seniors sincerely thank professor israelson for his visit miss lulu bett proves to be a superior play miss bliss lulu bett bet t presented by the university dramatic club at the opera house wednesday eve evening ni ng was superior to anything of its kind ever presented at salina tile the play itself a three act comedy drama appealed to the large audience present because it was more human and true to life than most plays that are staged nowadays on one is not surprised to loam learn that this particular play took the 1000 pulitzer prize awarded by the columbia university in addition to the high quality of the play it was well presented miss babcock the renowned artist and critic coached the students in their parts and chauncy houstman presented it here miss bliss lulu bett played by miss bliss ethel baker won everyone by her portrayal of the unfortunate lulu all the other members of the cast were also appreciated highly mr fred graham who accompanied the varsity players sang several high class solos between acts two and three the high school orchestra made the evening more pleasant also by the good m music u which they rendered between t the he other acts the citizens and students of north sevier wish to thank the student body officers for this splendid production these active officers procured these artists and it is reported that besides the enjoyment they gave to patrons and students they also placed a nent neat little sum in the student body treasury ora lorentzen wins valedictory although monday afternoon was a holiday tor for N S H S yot yet not all of her members spent it so four teachers miss bliss mr evans mr G L hanson and mr J A anderson were occupied the entire afternoon judging graduation themes the latter three were the judges and miss bliss read the themes aloud to these judges since each student had signed an assumed name to his theme the judges were wholly unaware of whose theme they were judging when then all the themes had ben been read the judges selected five best ones and from these chose the best one on for the valedictory and the second best for the class historian ora lorentzen was judged the valedictorian dic torian and gall gail johnson class historian ronald jensen farris anderson and bud peterson received honorable mention the judges expressed the opinion that it was waa difficult to judge since all the themes were so well done high school day was both profitable and joyful even the weather was favorable friday and with splendid organization N S H S s high school day proved a creditable event the boys wore were assigned to clean the school grounds and the park while the girls gave the high school building a thorough spring cleaning all worked diligently dul during 1119 the forenoon and at twelve a delicious luncheon contrI contributed butted by the tha girls supervised by the frechie cooks vis served at the park before luncheon had fairly settled a ba baseball e game was started between the juni juniors 0 s nyfors against the freshmen sophomores the latter group outnumbered their opponents therefore two faculty y pien aei bers were summoned to play inthe in the junior senior team and a third afi member ember of the faculty was made the umpire rumored that this was the cause of the junior senior victory the girls were so excited that they decided to fight it to a finish whereupon the girls of all tour four classes stationed themselves on the field and played three innings the junior senious having only one inning naturally lost to their opponents the boys then participated in track until late afternoon hero here the sophomore athletes won by a score of points A dance at night marked the triumph ful close of high school day Su students dents feasted sit nt a rare devotional to have curg peterson Po terson play tor for them tho the students felt was a distinctive honor and as they hurried to devotional thursday morning they were met not only by that extra ordinary violinist but also by supt bupt ashman and another gentleman who the students were told later war wae professor israelson the professor from U A C spoke first he urged students to get an education at home and at college he said there were three essentials to success a strong arm a clear head and a brave heart and ho he told the students tents how they might acquire these es essentials to success it if they chose to do so his talk was inspiring because he gave the students a strong determination to finish school although mr air evans had promised supt bupt ashman that he would not be requested to t talk alk the students would not hear of such a thing and so to humor them the superintendent gave ono one of his interesting encouraging talks he like professor israelson made the students feel the importance of going to college he did not agree with professor israelson la however low on tile the essentials of success supt bupt ashman declares to be born poor was the big factor to success most students felt that they had bad that factor his short talk was appreciated precia ted by the students for supt bupt ashman is a favorite at N S H S next all attention was on the violinist curg peterson a former student of north sevier the students listened almost with reverence to his wonderful playing he played three beautiful selections the students lingered eagerly to hear more but mr evans sternly directed them to their classrooms 0 track meet will bo 1340 featured at salina park the biggest event of this whole school season will be an inter county invitational track meet to be pulled oft off at salina park on april 28 the following schools will be present to participate in this meet wasatch academy snow college mantl manti high richfield Richtie ld high south sevier and north sevier the crowning feature of the day will be a ball in the evening at the amusement hall everybody in southern and central utah should bo be present on oil this auspicious occasion tile the cast of miss bliss lulu bett batt entertained the student body wednesday with a varied informal program it was a laugh from start to finish with a pause now and then for a tear each member of the cast contributed tri buted a part to this program the chorus deeming it quite
