Show OUR OTO STAKE CHOIR OUR STAKE CHORISTER the sevier stake in general and the three richfield wards in particular have all the reason in the world to be proud of our stake choir and ot of its leader stake chorister john hood we always knew it and it if we maye make today special mention of it editorially it is tor for the reason that saturday night the choir gave wonderful proof of more than ordinary ability by assisting in the rendition of evan stephens historical cantata the vision the composers work while introducing only one soloist and not a number of them is more of an oratorio than a cantata whether cl classic assle means as much as exemplary in form and contents or as much as conforming to the best standards and authorities in the special line of art in our case music the vision is a classic it is a delight and it is easy to listen to it and when giacomo carissimi the italian master of the seventh century whom music historians call the inventor of the oratorio was praised for the delightfulness do and easiness of his works he replied oil oh how hard it is to be easy our choir gave the chorus numbers of the work with a remarkable easiness and this is what we admired the most of the entire concert with all due respect to the visiting soloists we must not forget that they are professionals who make the rendition of high class music their special study the members of our choir are amateurs only take the program and look at their names and you will find among them farmers plumbers bankers blacksmiths clerks housewives stenographers in short representatives senta tives from all walks of life people who with a very few exceptions did not make a special study of singing classical music and who nevertheless came up to the best standard this proves that we are blessed with fine talent in our city but it also proves another thing the leader of our choir is a man of exceptional gift and ability in instructing and conducting a choir a man whom cities much larger than richfield envy us a man whom wo we ought to be and are justly proud of one thing we are not quite certain of is whether richfield Richtie ld properly appreciates our choir and our leader those who were at the concert appreciated precia ted it and every seat in the good size auditorium was occupied but we had expected more we are of the opinion that at an occasion this the house bouse should have been not filled but overcrowded true many were there but just as true many of those who one would think should not miss a chance like this were not present let us assume they have to be excused tor sufficient reasons yet it must be impressed on them that our choir caloir leader has brought up our choir to a standard not reached by much larger organizations let us not forget it let us make our choir a matter of civic pride let us support it in every way possible morally and financially those who have the divine spark by joining those who have not by not missing any opportunity to listen to them and to show their appreciation iad gratitude in n words and deeds |
