Show superintendents MEET action to remove oali c 0 of state superintendent suc I 1 perin crin from politics at the convention of the utah school superintendents held at salt lake city friday and saturday of last week a ic solution was passed endorsing the action of the state board of education recommending to the political parties that the office of state superintendent of public instruction st be removed from politics it is to be hoped that the parties will follow this splendid recommendation superintendent A J ashman who attended the convention reports that so 85 per cent of all utah school superintendents took part in the deliberations of the meetings among the many other resolutions adol adopted ted by the convention are of special importance the following we unhesitatingly favor the proposed constitutional amendment which provides a larger per capita distribution of state funds tor for through it we see in an opportunity for the state to give more nearly than it has ever done equal educational privileges to all we heartily endorse the smith tower bill naw now before congress and urge our congressmen to give it their unqualified support we commend the state department of education in making provision for a state educational exhibit at the state fair and we recommend to boards of education that teachers of agriculture and home economics economic v wherever he rever feasible be permitted to attend same we commend the splendid work of county and city boards of education throughout the state in their untiring efforts to provide the teachers a wage commensurate with lees ices t y the smith tower bill mentioned 1 air tile the above resolutions provides for fl the I 1 0 appropriation by congress of il lillion dollars for the purpose of health work americanization training of tac teachers liers and aiding of rural schools the bill was introduced two years ago and is still in ill the co committee in rooms the state superintendent of education announced before the convention that lie will visit during september and october every district in ili the state for the purpose of learning the particular problems 0 of the districts and coming in ili personal contact with tho the teachers the convention set the date of this years ye ars convention of the utah educational association for monday tuesday and wednesday december 27 28 and 29 |
