Show SHOWS richfield had in it the last few weeks tile the privilege if we lne so may call it to see several shows traveling stock companies came here to perform for us we lire deem it fitting to say a few words about what wo saw mw filere we saw it and how it served the purpose 0 of all theatrical performances not to entertain only but at the same time to elevate and to educate we ire aro sorry to state that in this respect ct the shows given here lately did not come up to what justly may be c pecked of them first on account of the plays performed second on oil account of the acting third on oil account of the more than poor condition of the house where the shows have to be given one of tile the companies was seen in fit a play written recently by one who he aspires to show his products to large audiences in largo cities on the stages of large theatres theartres the atres it if the richfield showing of the play was only a tryout try out the author must have seen that it wont do without very radical changes I 1 if it was a forerunner or of performances on a larger scale it can be pronounced a failure before brought out it was a very poor show and the effect still poorer as it was acted in very poor manner Rich fields audiences most certainly are not spoiled but they have enough of good taste to refuse acting of this kind another company presented a farce comedy devoid of any literary value the acting however was fairly good and whoever went to this show for the purpose of being entertained might have been fairly well satisfied next came a company with a very well advertised comedy drama the other mans wife life the company is to be complimented on their acting but they are not to bo be complimented on tile the selection of the vehicle on which to carry their histrionic talents the story of the play is as old as the dramatic art the way the subject is handled and the climax is reached is still older it if possible it has nothing to entertain on oil except for a very very simpleminded audience and it has still less than noth ing to be elevated on on oil every one of the three occasions quoted a capacity house louse greeted the performers this proves that Rich fields population is hungry for good shows this hunger ought to be satisfied in some way provided it is a better way than it has been iii in the case sive we are talking about there is no doubt that good companies properly equipped and bringing good plays would draw large audiences and make money in richfield of course it will be hard to get real good companies to come here companies worth while T hile to bo be seen and heard it will be hard not for monetary consideration but for tho the reason that there is no decent theatre h in this city where to stage the plays for the picture chov chos we have an elegant house but tor for the so called legitimate drama wo ive have but the old dilapidated unsightly structure they call the opera I louse and that that is not good enough to conduct a poultry exhibition in we should really find a way to erect a good theatre in richfield it shiely will ivill be a paying proposition literally as well as figuratively speaking |
