Show WELL ELL mm KNOWN mm CITIZEN CALLED BY DEATH 11 walter alter jones of 0 monroe Hou roc first merchant of that town and energetic community worker to attack of illness one of monroes monroen Mon roes most worthy wor thy citizens died yesterday when the lark dark angel called walter jones ile he was one of the early settlers of monroe and during his entire life had been one of the most active and public spirited men in the community he had been suffering for some time from kidney trouble and over a week ago his condition became serious his children were constantly in attendance upon homand him and all that was possible was done to relieve his condition jones was 81 years of age he was waa born in south wales and came to america in ill his early manhood after stopping in the east for several years he finally came to utah settling first at fountain green sanpete county later he became one of the founders of monroe which was named alma in those days and he became an active member of the struggling settlement helping to shape its early course in becoming a real progressive municipality ile he is the last of the little band of pioneers who went to that settlement there being seven in the company who first pitched their tents where monroe now stands he owned the first store in monroe and for years he followed merchandising he was 1 a I member of the school board for a long time and held other positions of trust in the community being a member of one of the first bishoprics bishoprick bish of the ward and was an active church worker he is survived by four daughters and two sons these are sirs mrs ferd erickson mrs louis baker mrs ole larsen mrs joseph olsen and lewis jones vice president of the sevier school district all of monroe and A V jones of arco idaho mr jones was known to everyman woman and child in the town of monroe and was respected funeral arrangements have not as yet been made |
