| Show ELWOOD ae PORTED MISSING IN AT FRONT venice young youn man severely wounded last 1 spring reported mii missing a may be a prisoner CL CLYDE X DE WELLS or OF JOSEPH DIES OF 01 P PNEUMONIA NEU nionia 0 acs of well known Sevie rians in various camps who are suffering from the epidemic of spanish influenza friday nights list of casualties from the western front in france contains the name of elwood buchanan of venice missing in action the young man has had a varied experience since sir he was inducted into the service a year ago he 1 Is the son of mr and mrs L D buchanan of venice and was sent to camp lewis last october he was kept there but a short time when he be was sent overseas with a division from american lake he landed I 1 in n england where he be was given several weeks training and then he went to the front early this spring he was severely wounded in the arm and shoulder and has spent practically all summer in the base hospital apparently on his return to the front he was engaged in active fighting and he is reported missing in action this may mean little or much it is one of the most unsatisfactory reports from the front and it takes months sometimes to clear up the report usually this is done through the red cross who make a specialty of looking up those reported missing in action missing in action usually means taken prisoner and if so the red cross people seek out these prisoners and notify the parents the sympathy of the entire community is with mr and mrs buchanan who are highly respected citizens of the county dan cousin of county attorney oluf michelson chelson Ml is reported killed in action in france mr is well known in this county where he spent several winters his home is in salt lake from which point he joined the colors he had served on the mexican border and was a sergeant in the infantry on the firing line he was a young man of df excellent character and his friends here will be deeply grieved to hear of his fate glorious tho it may be the body of clyde wells of joseph was mas brought home for burial this th Is week from camp funston ark where he died of spanish influenza on oct 9 mr wells left here on july for limited service and went to lytel ga for training he was later assigned to the engineers corps and transferred to camp funston where he contracted the influenza which developed into pneumonia ending in his death he leaves a large number relatives tives including a three year old daughter his wife having died some time since the whole community mourns the death of mr wells who has given his life for his country I 1 the remains of john H poulson were brought here from mammoth utah for burial last monday by the side of his mother who was wa s interred here several years ago mr poulson is the son of J H poulsen who lived in richfield some time since bince and whose wife died here he later moved to mammoth with his family john H poulsen whose body was brought here enlisted in the navy sonic time since and lie lie I 1 died ot pneumonia at the naval hospital in virginia the remains were sent to mammoth where funeral services were held and then the body was brought here to rest by he be slide of the boys mother george anderson of monroe Is critically ill with pneumonia at camp custer custer midi mich according to a telegram received by relatives he joined the service last M may ay and was assigned t to telephone construction service alf madsen of elsinore Elsin is another pneumonia patient in the service and Is critically ill at camp lewis i ac corringto according cording to word received by his relatives on last monday A later message conveyed the cheering news that he is recovering archie gouchett Gau chett chatt of annabella Ann who was inducted into the service last july is very ill at camp dodge iowa accord according ing to a telegram received by hid hh sister mrs A D lie he W was as as signed assigned to camp didgo because of his experience with horses and was looking after cavalry mounts R at t that place although mrs Ne belter wired instructions to bo be kept anfor informed med as to his condition no further word has been received |
