Show Hindenburg Signs President von Hindenburg of Germny has signed the Young plan agreement for the final determination determina-tion of war reparations, although it was strongly opposed by certain elements of the German people. This act is of the most important impor-tant significance, because it mark3 th; end of the long and often bitter controversy ov.r reparations which lias existed eve:- since the end of the World War. In reaching a peaceful settlement of this vast and complicated problem prob-lem the conciliatory attitude of President Hindenburg has been a great help. Although during the war he as looked upon as a ru'h-less ru'h-less militarist, since his accession to tho presidency in 1925 his powerful influence has been constantly exerted ex-erted in behaif cf peace and harmony. harm-ony. He is still vigorous and active at the age of 83, and enjoys the can-fidence can-fidence and respect of the world at large. His approval of the Young plan is another evidence of his sincere sin-cere desire to promote peace and good will among the nations. |
