While the recreation will be the principal aim of many, a majority will expect to learn something ol permanent value during their travels. trav-els. In order that one may derive the most benefit from his travel experiences, exper-iences, it would be well to find out as much as possible about the places to bo visited ahead of time. Then, when he actually sees the places and objects of which he has studied, he will gain a more lasting impression of their significance. Information gained from guides and handbooks during one's travels is valuable, of course, but it is generally gen-erally superficial, and lacking in the historical background which is necesary for a full understanding, and appreciation of the famous places where history has been made. The educational value of travel depends largely upon knowing beforehand be-forehand what one wants to see, and why. |
