Show Virginia Leads the Way In 1928, the state of Virgin'a appointed a commission to prepare a program Tor the relief of agriculture agri-culture in that state. The report of this commission has just been made puuue. One of its chiei recommendations is for the extension of construction activity upon rarm to market roads as feeders for the state highway system. Practically all states are beginning begin-ning to realize the necessity for good roads m the farming sections to enable the farmer to transport his produce when market conditions condi-tions are most favorable instead of when the roaas are passable, and to alleviate the social isolation which used to be synonymous with living on a farm. While main through highways are of course Indispensable, lower cost hard surfaced roads reaching all farms (so-called farm-to-market roads), are equally necessary to an efficient highway system. |
