Show DUP Hold First Meeting Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Lone Poplar Camp, held their first meeting of the year on Sept. 19 at the home of Edna Betenson, co-hostess co-hostess was Harriet Richardson. FOURTEEN members were in attendance with one invited guest. Those present were Marie Anderson, Ander-son, Edna Betenson, Mona Bunting, Bunt-ing, Myrtle Jepson. Betsy-Long, Eloise Luderman, Ada Norborg, Harriet Richardson. Iris Rogers, Frances Searle, Maxine Smith, Barbara Tingey, Theona Tyler, Thora Wallace. Invited guest was Thelma Harrison. Captain Mona Bunting presided. Frances Searle gave the invocation. invoca-tion. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mona Bunting. AN ARTICLE on Pioneer Relics was read by Marie Anderson. She told about Joseph Torento who was the first Italian and the first member of the Catholic Church to be converted to Mormonism. He also contributed $25,000 in gold pieces for the building of the Salt Lake Temple. Thora Wallace gave the history . of her great-great-grandfather, Zera Pulsipher, who converted Wilford Woodruff to the church. She also gave the history of her great-grandfather, Hyrum Smith Bryson, who helped to settle the city of Bountiful. BETSY LONG gave the lesson on The Year 1884. It was a year of many tragedies from bad weather, flooding, snow slides, many farmers far-mers lost their crops due to the flooding. Mormon Elders were persecuted in the eastern states. She noted that the City Creek canyon ca-nyon was developed, the Logan Temple was dedicated. Counties in the state were laid out and some were divided. Noted Utah sculpture sculp-ture Dallin. was honored for his statue of Paul Revere. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mona Bunting on Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. |
