Show GOV. DERI LEADS PARI! 10 IRE TOP OF MOUNT NEBO A large number of mountain enthusiasts, en-thusiasts, including Gov. Geonge H. Dern, last Friday night climbed the v-indiing trail to U.he summit of Mount Nebo and this morning witnessed- the sunrise. The hikers struggled back to the canyon oa.mp between 7 and 9 a. m with expressions of praise for the maguificient view.3 afforded by the trip mingled with an.iou3 calls of when do we eat. The ascent was begun at 11 p. m. a Tier a community bonfire program in the canyon near the foot of the trail at which some 15 00 from Juab and Sanpete vailleys and other parts of the state were present. A brief address was made by Governor Dern in which he expressed delight at the conumunity spirit exhibited ex-hibited in the gathering and a keen enthusiasm to become better acquainted acquain-ted with the scenic grandeur of the state. The program also included music by the Nephi high school band and Wool City band of Fountain Green, Brief speeches by W. C. Andrews. Mayor Thomas Bailey, J. L. Steed, the Cole sisters and the Nephi Ladies chorus, reading, Miss Alice Sowby. j An interesting feature of the evening eve-ning was the lighting of the huge fire after a dance by Miss Dorthy Haymond. |
