Show MAILING ICARL1ES. The "Mail Early" ur.gings promulgated promul-gated last year by the postoffice department de-partment met with a gratifying response. res-ponse. Though reasonable success w as attained, the goal is set still 'high or for the year. "Mail Earlier" might be this year's slogan. The purpose is to relieve postal employes of the overwhelming last minute rush of former years by distributing the handling of parcels over a longer period, per-iod, entirely elimanting the peak of the load from Christmas itself. The "zero hour" has been advanced, it is rnnounced. Rural carriers will make no deliveries on Christmas and city carriers will make one delivery on Christmas. It is recommended tha. Christmas parcels be mailed between 10 and December 20. It is urged also that Christmas cards be mailed early, 'est they be not delivered until after the event! The matter of delay shopping and delayed mailing is mainly a habit. Pome folks are constitutionally slow To be beforehanded in any action is ho exception rather tnan taie rule. While it may be practically impossible impos-sible to induce some to- act early, if those who are ameable to suggestion do, the end is gained by haviiig at least a part of the business out of the way before the procrastinatng ones come along. Thus the congestion which might otherwise result 13 in some measure avoided. It would be easier to shop early and mail early than to delay until the crowds arc greater, but habit causes some of us to put off a task as long as possible. Ir is the correction ot a bad babbie which the postoffice department is seeking., |
