Show Easily Recall Voice Heard on Telephone Is a voice a better Identification tag thun a face? Telephone operators say voices are more easily recognized and they ought to know they hear enough of them. Voices, they assert, are more personal than faces. Faces may bear resemblance, resem-blance, but a voice Is distinctly Individual. Indi-vidual. "I find It comparatively easy to associate as-sociate voices with names, although I do not recognize transient callers." says a woman who has been private branch exchange operator for the Philadelphia Phil-adelphia board of education for more than six years. In thnt time she has familiarized herself with the namei and voices of the entire school administration admin-istration staff, most cf the school principals prin-cipals and hundreds of school teachers. "Of course. If I were to meet them on the street I should fall to recognize recog-nize them.'' she admits, "but I have learned to know t he voices and to catalogue them mentally. If a person calls more than once and leave nls name, I usually remember both nls name and his voice. If he calls again I endeavor, of course, to call him by name." |
