Show Manager George Sisler Out for Pinch Hitter It is an unusual spectacle to see a champion batsman taken out for a pinch hitter, yet it has happened twice In the American league this year, both times in Detroit. Harry Heilmann led the American league In 1921 and after losing the title to Manager George Sisler In 1922, regained the honors last season. Sisler in 1922, the year he led the American league, was voted the most valuable player in that organization. American league pitchers will tell you they fear no two hitters in the league more than Heilmann or Sisler. Despite this, Sisler removed himself to let a pinch hitter bat for him. Recently Re-cently Manager Cobb removed Heilmann Heil-mann for a substitute batter. It so happened that both Sisler and Heilmann were in the throes of a protracted pro-tracted slump at the time. |
