Show Commissioners Allow a Special Revolving Fund In their regular meeting o-f recent date the Sanpete County Commissioners-allowed a revolving fund in the amount of ?2ii0.00 to he used in the Rodent Control Project within the county during the coming ; ear. R Scott Zimmerman of the federal bureau c.- Biological iurcoy who is in charge of Rodent conlroi in the Jtau; was ;lt the meeting and explained ex-plained Ihe necess'ty of ",'ie revolving revolv-ing fund to the commissioners. Others in attendances ;.t the meet-ing meet-ing were Mr. W. W. Owens State County Agent Lead u- and Hie locai County Agent. In the past the poisoned po-isoned oats for ground squirrel control con-trol has been mixed under the direction-of the County Agent by local Project Leaders in the various communities. com-munities. This has proved rather expensive as the oats and other ingredients in-gredients that go into the formula had to be purchased mi small quantities quan-tities and at times of the year when I hey were at the highest price especially espec-ially the oats. Another past olijec lion has been that the 'free strychnine strych-nine furnished by the State and County Co-unty has not been used t.) best advantages, ad-vantages, and occassional!;- dirty oats were used; with this and other causes often the best results wculd not come when the poisoned bait was actually spread out on t J infested in-fested areas. It. is proposed now that with the "use of the revolving fun I to purchase the supplies for the entire county and mix the bait in one place under the invmediate supervision of Mr, Mnrmerman and the County agent. The ready mixed biit wili then be distributed thruout the county in properly labeled cloth bags at actual cost. This method will make it possible pos-sible to use the steam rolled oals out in other parts of the slate. After the bait is sold out to the farmers In the spring and summer the money will revert back into the County Revolving Fund for future use. |
