Show Piutes to be Given Lands Washington. As a step toward preventing a recurrence of Indian outbreaks in Utah, Secretary Work Wednesday issued an order alloting public lands in San Juan county, Utah, to the bands of Utes, Piutes and Xavajos which have been roving the public domain near Blanding. Old Posey's band consists of about 100 men, women and children, and each will be given either 40 acres of irrigable ir-rigable land, SO acres of agricultural land, or 160 acres of grazing range. The 85 members of Polk's band will receive similar allotments. The land of each Indian will be fenced, and the government will give aid in the erection erec-tion of homes. Sheep and other livestock live-stock will be furnished by the Indian bureau which also will open schools. |
