Show Much Farm Land Flooded j Stockton, Cal. Several thousand acres of the richest farm lands in the state were completely inundated late Saturday when a Bethel island levee hurst above Antioch, eighteen miles West of Stockton. Crop losses exceeding ex-ceeding $150,000 was reported here. The levee, which is made by subsidiary subsi-diary of the San Joaquin river and surrounds the 3500-acre Bethel island broke as a result of being tampered by crush fire fighters. A three-foot hole became a thousand foot gap from which the swirling waters poured down over hundreds of acres of celery, corn, tomatoes and asparagus, leaving i them in ruin. |
