Show New Yorkers Storm Tossed New York. A sudden and furious thunder storm demoralized New York Thursday, flooding streets and subways, sub-ways, crippling transportation, telephone tele-phone and light service. Lightning killed a boy in New Jersey and caused sixteen fires in the metropolitan area. Stanley Carpenter, 15, was the victim of the storm as he crossed an open field at Hightstown, N. J., with two younger brothers. The brothers were shocked by the lightning, but unhurt. A hundred women and children imprisoned im-prisoned in a flooded tunnel in Central Cen-tral park were rescued by firemen. In the municipal ferry house at St. George thousands of commuters stood ankel deep in water, waiting for transportation trans-portation to their homes. Transit on Staten island was paralyzed for thirty-five minutes. Floods also caused short circuits that blocked the subway sub-way system at three points. . |
