A survey of Crops conditions in Sanpete County just completed by a Committe from the Countv Farm Bureau Executive Committee and the County Agricultural Agent iis;s its findings as follows: Per-acres Per-acres cent All grains (irrigated) 30,0u0 66 All grains ( unirrigated ) 15. u 10 43 Alfalfa 23,000 37 Wild Hay 16,800 50 Sugar Beets 5,200 77 Potatoes 7 00 56 Peas 500 50 The acreage in each case is approximate. approx-imate. The estimates are summaries summar-ies of estimates given by leading farmers in each locality. The survey was made for the purpose pur-pose of furnishing the State Board of Equalization with reliable data, in the hopes that the proposed 30 per cent raise. in the assessed valuation valua-tion of real estate. in Sanpete Couaiy, would be abandoned. It will be noted that the hay crop is especially poor. In addition, the pasture lands that have in the past supported the stock from the mountains moun-tains until late fall, are scarcely able now to take care of the few dairy cows. In most cases the stock from the mountains this fall will have to go onto feed immediately or be shipped ship-ped out. It appears that the feed situation is going to be critical, unless those who are most concerned get together and find some source of cheap feed. The County Agricultural Agent is making inquiries concerning price of various feeds in the hope that some means may be found to winter the stock without too much loss. The markets are sure to be forced down on account of the drouth and it would be unfortunate to have to sell a big portion of our livestock at a sacrifice. |
