Show BEET SUGAR DECREASE NOTED Production for 1921 is 68,532 Tons Under Production of 1920 Washington. Beet sugar production produc-tion for 1921 amounted to 1,020,480 short tons, Secretary Wallace announced an-nounced Thursday, adding that this amount was 68,532 tons less than tho production of 1920. The sugar beet area of 1921 grew on S14.9SS acres, an area that was 56.6SS acres less than that of 1920, and, it was said, the report was the result of enumeration and not of estimating. Farmers received $49,154,000 for the 7,7S2,000 tons of the beet sugar crop for 1921, which afforded an average of $00 per acre and $6.32 per ton, and the price per ton was said to be as low as in 1910. Ninety-two factories were in operation for seventy-six days on the average, it was said, and the fraction of sucross actually extracted was 13.76 per cent of the weight of beets, as compared with an average of 13.55 per cent for the years 1915-20. |
