Dear Father and Mother: Christinas has passed but it did not seem like Christmas to me; not like 1 have been used to at home, but nevertheless, I had an enjoyable time. -I did not hove any big dinne", but enjoyed myself thinking of the good things you had at homo. But there are other things we should live tor besides good things to eat. When I left home 1 thought 1 whb ?oing to a cold country, but I wan mistaken. The wealher Is neither Harm nor cold here. It is more like being down in a cellar where it does not freeze, and yet one feels chilly. There is never any sunshine here and it is always like a chilly March dav. Just before a cold net storm. The Mreels never get dry Irom one storm to another. It was pretty . cold laM night but did not freeze ice more than 'li eighth 0r an inch thick. The grass i gieeu here all (he yeir around. A funeral procession junr paspc-1 nd it seems very strange lo me, for the richer I he man the hetirr he Is 1 iiiried. There are HrHl, second and hird class burials and they never pH'.e any ceremonials over their 'end. The corpse lq taken out and put awuy just like a brick in a wall, 'he buiial ground i made out of and and the bodies are laid out. ou he ground covered over with nnnrl Uitil the coffin is decayed when they 'ike the bones out and bury 1 1mm In real macks, and then they Rtni nil er again in the burial ground. Now. Hear Father and Mother, do 't uorrv about me for 1 m al-Ight al-Ight and feel fine. I haven't been sick at all. I am among a good people. peo-ple. They would share their last, crumb of bread with me and I would ''o the same 1'h then. They n ,far ahead of our people in that re- 't-pec(.
