Show SMASHING BLOWS AT TERRORISM Indictment of Labor Leaders In Chlc-ogo Chlc-ogo Causes Trouble In Labor Circles Chicago, Police and civic organizations organiza-tions Friday saw in the indictment of eight Chicago labor leaders and the state's attorney threat to use against them the law invoked thirty-six years ago to obtain conviction of the Hay-market Hay-market rioters, a smashing blow at what they termed gang terrorism. In a long night session Thursday, a Cook county special grand jury returned re-turned true bills charging murder against "Big Tim" Murphy, head of, the Gas Workers' union ; Fred Mader, president of tho Chicago Building Trades council ; Cornelius P. (Con) Shea, secretary and treasurer of the Theatre Janitors' union, referred to as the "Big Three" of the Chicago labor circles, and five others. The Indictments returned in connection connec-tion with recent bombing outrages and police killings are forerunners of scores of others, official said. More than 400 persons were arrested arrest-ed in the past few days and hut few have been released, with the greater number denied freedom even on writs ' of habeas corbus. |
