Show DELICATE WORK IS COMPLETED The Swedish engraver, Godfrey Lundberg of Spokane,. Washington, a nephew of Dr. A. Lundberg-of Mt. Pleasant, has finished a work of remarkable re-markable achievement in . that he engraved the Lord's Prayer on a gold pin head, and on the point of the pin he engraved the letters J. H. S. which menas (Jesus Hominum Sal-vator) Sal-vator) or Jesus the Savior of the World. It took Mr. Lundberg three years of hard labor to finish the work of which there is nothing to compare. and more than once he was about to give up the task. But, when the .vork was completed, Mr. Lundberg was proud of the fact that he 4:d been successful in engraving twelve lines of words on a pin head only 1.27 mll-imeters mll-imeters in diameter. Three years ago Mr. Lundberg saw some very fine engraving in the Philadelphia Phil-adelphia Horologial Society where the same engraving was on a pin head with a diameter ot 0.111 of an Inch. The one which he has just completed is 0.047 of an inch smaller. While in the Philadelphia Museum Mr. Lundberg decided to try the same engraving on a pin only one third the size. In undertaking the task it is necessary to h.ve steady nerves and Mr. Lundberg made a special flue tool for the work, which took him six months to complete. Then he began to invent a special apparatus to hold his arm and tool steady while at work. The work is plain, but can only be seen through a strong magnifying magni-fying glass. Mr. Lundberg is a native of Spokane, Spo-kane, but he will have his pin on exhibition ex-hibition at the San Francisco Fair. Besides being a fine engraver, Mr. Lundberg is a musician and sculptor. |
