Show Farm Fertility. Every bushel of grain, each ton of hay, every animal and animal product prod-uct removed from the soil lessens the supply of elements required for fu: ture crops. If by the application of lime, purchased manure, the use of fertilizers, and the growing of green manure crops, fertility may be maintained, main-tained, it becomes a question of economics whether the coBt of seed and the labor required to grow fertilizing fertil-izing crops are profitable or not in ordinary agriculture, and in localities where the demand for perishable fruit, etc., does not exist. It may be doubtful whether the expense is justifiable. |
