Show ; Boys' Agriciiliural And Girls' fee Economics Clubs Being Organized Prof. J. C. Hoganson who is err ployed conjointly by the Utah Agricultural Agri-cultural College and the U. S. Department De-partment of Agricultural, past through Sanpete County last week organising Boys' Agricultural and Girls' Econnmic Clubs at the various schools of the county. These club have been organiged in 19 counties in the state. The boys take up the growing of potatoes, sugar beets. Mangle Weerz,els, onions, cabbage, peas and poultry raising. The girls takeupbiead making, growing of flowers, sewing and canning ol fruits and vegetables. The boys wili be expected to grow one half acre of some crop which they may choose for the local con test to be held next year. The girlt will make 25 loaves of bread in the bread making contest. The officers selected at the District Dis-trict School for the Boys' Club are Douglas Strang, president; Frank Gilbert, vice president with Laban Gundeson as secretary. For the Girls' Club were selected Goldie Nielson, PrSsiedent; Alta Stanfield, Vice-president and Ruth Monsen, Secretary. At the North Sanpete High School Lyman Seely was chosen president; Geo. Peterson, Vice-President; snd Farield Larsen as Secretary of jthe Boys' Club. The Girls selected Cas-sie Cas-sie Rasmussen, President; lone McAr thur, Vice-President; and Annie Clemensen as Secretary of the Girls' Club. Wasatch Academy have chosen for their officers in the Boys' Club the following: Harold Jensen, Presi dent; Alonzo Knudsen, Vice-President and Harold Hunter as Secretary. The girls selected Mrs. W. B. Hicks as President; Miss Mattie Metzger, Vice-President and Miss Bernice Bradley as Secretary. The prizes to be given for the winners in the contest are: For the champion boy, a gasoline engine worth $125, a scholarship to the Ag-gricultural Ag-gricultural College, a silver trophy, 20 bushels of Seed Potatoes, and a trip to Washington, D. C. For the champion girl will be given a Fire-less Fire-less Cooker, an Iceless Refrigerator, a silver trophy, a free course ot the Agricultural College and also a free trip to Washington, D. C. Prof. Hogansen will depart for a trip to Washington about the 7th of December with Merle Hyer and Miss Hattie Holbrook who were the successful suc-cessful winners in the contest held during the year 1913. They will spend about two weeks in the east in the interest of this great work which is being done among the young people. They will return to Ulah about December 23rd just in time to enjoy Christmas Holidays at home afier such a grand trip to the Capital. |
