Show Explanation to Taxpayers By Mt. Pleasant Mill and Power Company Inasmuch as there is an apparent purpose on the part of some of our Citizens to get a wrong impression before the taxpayers with respect to the sale of our Electric Light Plant, i we deem it, our duty to publish this statement: ' , It has been known for some considerable con-siderable time that the capicit of the present plant is not sufficient to furnish the demand for light and power, so for that reason some one must enlarge it. We knew that the city had filed on a Power Site in Pleasant Creek Canyon, Can-yon, evidently for the purpose of installing in-stalling an Electrical Power Plant to be owned by the Citv. We also knew that the Tplluride Company was building its Electrical transmission line from the south in this direction and that it was purchasing pur-chasing the local power plants along its route, as for instance at Richfield, Saii a and Gunnison. , The Telluride Company had approached ap-proached us to ascertain if we w ould s ;11 to it our pdant. We replied that we held our plan t at $20,000.00, and would not sell at that price, until the City was given the first opportunity to purcnase it; for we all felt that it was desirable for the City to own the Plant and wanted the Municipality to have it at even a I ess price than we could get for it from another source. So after considerable negotiation we offered the plant to the City for $15,000.00. The Citizens, in Mass-Meeting assembled, as-sembled, after thoroughly considering consider-ing the question, decided that the City could not afford to let this opportunity op-portunity goby, and by resolution, duly adopted, directed the City authorities au-thorities to purchase the Local plant for the price offered, and to proceed to call a bond election to raise money with which to purchase the plant and to install necessary machinary for the increasing of its capacity to supply the growing demand for electrical elec-trical current. Now. it has been charged tha' we are HOLDING UP the Citv; t lat $15. 000. Otl is too much to give f lour l-our plant. Do you know that Manti City gave $17,000.00 for the local plant there, and that Fairview City ga e $8,0011. . 00 for the plant in that ei y .' We are ail citizens of this City r.o.d most of us amongst the largest taxpayers tax-payers in the community. We know that we can get $15,00u.(.!0 or more for our p'ant and we are not urgimv the City to buy it, although we would rather see the city get it tl an to sell it to others, for it it should become the property of an outsido Co.poiation we would have to p;y more for our light and tne mono,, would each month leave the business channels of our own community a id would go towards building up iinius-tries iinius-tries elsewhere. 1 We consider the price placed upon . our properly very reasonable indeed, and would nt sell to anv one, except ex-cept the City for that amount. i It is our judgement that the Citizens Cit-izens will,, in the very near future, find that a mistake has been made should they fail to avail themselves of the opportunity now present;d to ' get a Municipal Power Plant. ' From our investigation of the question ques-tion we are certain that enough power can be generated, by going to the mouth of Pleasant Creek Canyon, ; to serve our wants for all tune to come. j If you want the City to purchase I the plant you should vote For Bonds "Yes," Respectfully submitted, MT. PLEASANT MILL & POWER -COMPANY, By I N. S. Nielson, Presiden'. ! John H. Seely, Secretary. Dated July 11th, 1012. |
