Show PIONEER UTAH BANKER DEAD. Financier and Mining Magnate Sue cumbs to Long Illness. Salt Lake City Matthew H, Walker, president of Walker Bros. Bankers, and known as one of the foremost financiers in the intermoun-tain intermoun-tain west, died July 28, after a ling-ering ling-ering illness. Matthew H. Walker was born in Yeadon, Yorkshire, England, January 16, 1845, and came to Utah in 1855. There were four sons Sharp S. Walker, D. F. Walker, J. R. Walker and M. H. Walker. The first bank in Salt Lake was. opened by the Walker brothers. M. H. Walker and his brothers were also pioneers in mining in Utah. They first operated all Stockton and Ophir and also in the Little Cottonwood district, where wag located the famous old Emma mine, |
