Show STATKMKNT ISSIFI) liV DAVID (). M'KAV Ogden, August 1. In an attempt to clear up some misunderstanding that has existed with regard to the forthcoming primaries to elect delegates dele-gates to the state conventions, David O. McKay, leader of the Oeden I !. t -terment league, has issued the following follow-ing statement : "To the people of Weber county who are working for slate and national na-tional prohibition of the manufacture and sale of Intoxicating liquors. "Among the suggestions given to the organizations now working for Ihe cause of prohibition I find the following: 'Go to political primaries, even at some sacrifice, ami exercise your prerogatives pre-rogatives as citizens in selecting men and women of wisdom and integrity to attend the conventions where plat, forms are framed, party principles declared and candidates for office chosen. " 'Get others to go to the primaries and act intelligently. Under conditions condi-tions as they have heretofore prevailed pre-vailed one vote at. the primary was more effective than a hundred iit the poles. "This is excellent advice and should be heeded. But It is rumored that, through misunderstanding, it may lie misapplied by a few who might go to the wrong primary. Lei it be clearly understood that ail work done In the primaries must be confined con-fined to yoni respective political parties. par-ties. Demoiicrat work In Democratic primaries and Republican work In Republican primaries. Any at tempt of one political party to vote in another primary would be not nnh unfair but absolutely un-American. "No more important cause has come before the people than that for which they are now conn riding. J.ct us defend It zealously, nut justly; never permitting our zeal, however, to carry us beyond the bounds of right and justice to all." (Signed.) "DAVID I). M'KAV." |
