Show The Old Adam. He was a staunch supporter of the kirk, hut he also had a dash of sporting sport-ing blood in his veins. One Sabbath morn, as he was proceeding pro-ceeding to the kirk with his Bible under un-der his arm, he came upon a group of laddies playing football on a piece of waste ground. He watched the game for some minutes ; then, when there came a hill, he called the boys over to him. "Bh, laddies, ye knaw it's verra wrang tae play fitba' on the Sawbath. Ve ma una do it. Whaur dae ye think ye'll gang when ye dee if ye play fitba' on the Laird's day? And you, ma niannie indicating the captain "why don't ye shoot oftener for goal? Ye dribble far ower much I Ye're puir players, t)e lot of ye." |
