She was very haughty and possessed of a very much wrinkled face. Though he was trying hard, he simply sim-ply couldn't keep awake and persisted in topping over on her shoulder. Each time he did it he smiled ingratiatingly as if promsing to do better in future, but she was extremely annoyed. "How dare you insult a lady?" she exclaimed. He woke up again. "I didn't," he sputtered. "How dare you contradict a lady?" ehe snapped. Here the intoxicated one took a tremendous tre-mendous brace, forced one eye wide open, sat up straight, and took a long, long look at the very wrinkled face by his side. "You're not a lady," he muttered at last; "you're a fig!" |
