Mrs. Clyde Syme are leaving Thursday Thurs-day for Afton, Wyo. to visit with her son, Frank, who has cm-polyment cm-polyment there. Blytiie Taylov of Freedom, who is in the U. S. Navy, enjoyed a furlough with friends and relatives rela-tives recently. Douglas Bradley of the U. S. Army just sent ward to h;s parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Reese Bradley, that he is being transferred from Arlington, Virginia to Jefferson, Indiana for further training. Pioneer Day Celebrated One of the most enjoyable days spent in Moroni since the outbreak of the present war, was the celebration of Pioneer Days on Tuesday. It was under the direction of the Sons and Daughters Daugh-ters of the Pioneers, and it proved to be a big success. A most unusual and interest- j ing parade was arranged and ' started from the City Hall and marching one block North and then East on Main street and re-! turn to the West ward chapel j for a splendid program, which was .enjoyed by an audience which filled the chapel to capacity. ca-pacity. There were dozens of miniature floats, and every one of them were appropriate for Pioneer Days, as well as for war times. The parade was under the direction di-rection of Mrs. Ivy Anderson, chairman of the committee. They were furnished by the Sunday Schools, M. I. A., and Primary organizations of both East and West wards, as well as by the ladies clubs of Moroni and also the business houses. The following- program was conducted by Soren C. Nielson at the West ward chapel. Congregational Congre-gational singing, "America," with Mrs. Florence Christensen conductor, with Ophiilia Rhodes at the piano. Prayer- by Chaplain Chap-lain Vilate Anderson; singing, "Utah The Queen of The West," by the congregation; Speech of Welcome, Soren C. Nielson; ac-cordian ac-cordian solo, by Shefman Christensen; Chris-tensen; Tribute to Pioneers, by Emerson Blackham; reading, "Taking Caster Oil," by Mrs. Er-ma Er-ma Cloward; The East Ward Girls Chorus, directed by Mrs. Othniel Kellet, sang, "Kiss Me Again," with Carol Christensen as accompanist, and Miss La Rona Irons as soloiist; a piano solo, by Mrs. Ophelia Rhodes; "Bells of St. Marys" was sung by the Singing Mothers, the solo being sung by Mrs. Warren Blackham, with Faye Draper as accompanist; reading, entitled, "Our Flag," by Mrs. Eleanor Taylor; Tay-lor; a vocal duet, "Till We Meet Again," was surv by Miss Dar-lene Dar-lene Christensen and Miss Lois Jensen; prayer, by the Chaplain', Mrs. Anderson. "Utah of 1847," was represented by Mrs. Marie Larsen, who is 86 years of age. "Utah of 1945," was represented by Miss Virginia Anderson. "Miss Moroni of 1945," was represented by Miss Nedra Blackham. Black-ham. The Sons and Daughters of Pioneers were all served to delicious de-licious refreshments after the prograrn while the children enjoyed en-joyed games, races and other sports on the chapel lawn. A rodeo was arranged at the ball park for 2 p. m. A childrens dance was given at 6 p. m and the evening was concluded con-cluded with another of the famous fa-mous dances at Joyland. Dozens of cars and hundreds of people were out for the big event and hoping that next celebration the war will be over. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moss and family of Standardville, Utah are spending a few days with relatives and friends at Moroni. Due to Bishop B. A. Cliilds and family moving from Moroni to Mt. Pleasant in V.ie near future, he and his counselors were released re-leased from their duties of the Bishopric of the Moroni East ward last Sunday in Sacrament meeting, and the following were chosen to fill the vacancies: T TIT AT:1,. nr. The speakers in the West ward were Mrs. Afton Anderson and James Prestwich, who gave spen-did spen-did tributes to "Our Pioneers." Miss Beverly Blackham left last Wednesday to spend her vacation with relatives in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Holman and family of Park City are spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Holman. Mr. and Mrs. Reese Bradley and Mrs. Sylvia La.sen attended the funeral services at Spring Ciiy last Monday for Mrs. Arella Madsen. Mrs. Hyrum Tidwell spent 3 days this week with her children. Mr. and Mrs. Lindon Hall and family of Payson. Miss Arlene Rfed, age 5 years, of Fountain Green and William Reed Christensen, age 3 years, of Moroni are convalescing from I tonsil operations at the Dice hospital hos-pital this week. Mrs. Bertha Jensen returned to her home last Satirday after spending 2 weeks wilh her chil-(!;cn, chil-(!;cn, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Blackham and family at Moroni. Mrs. Elmer Morley and children chil-dren and Mrs. Floyd Andrews and children, all of Sunnyside, Utah have returned to their home after a week's visit with their mother, Mrs. Louise Mon-sen. |
