Show The Purpose Of Poppy Day Memory of America's war dead .n the first World War will be honored here on Saturday, May i.4, when everyone will be asked to wear a memorial poppy in :r;bute lo their service and sacrifice. sac-rifice. Plans for the observance of Poppy Day are being completed uy the Mt. Pleasant Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary un-aer un-aer the leadership of Jessie Clark, Poppy Day chairman. The memorial iiowers, made by disabled dis-abled war veterans, will be offered offer-ed on ti.ie streets throughout the .ay by the Auxiliary women. Th.s year, with the threatening threaten-ing shadow of a new World War .aning across America, the memorial mem-orial poppy has new significance. It shows that America still remembers re-members and honors those who loll in its defense twenty-three years ago; llnat Americans still believe that America's free way oi tile is worth any sacrifice, and that the spirit of patriotism still burns strongly in American hearts. All Poppy Day workers will serve as volunteers and all of che money contributed to them for the flowers will go into the wel.are funds of the Auxiliary 10 carry forward the Auxiliary's work for the disabled, their fam-.lies fam-.lies and the families of the dead during the year ahead. |
